Detailed Overview

Everest Cho La Pass Trek is one of the most popular treks in Nepal that takes you to the Everest region, passing through multiple ethnic villages up to the Everest Base Camp (5,380m). This Everest Base Camp trek passes through a remote, pristine country where only a few trekkers pass each year. It gives you rare opportunities to meet people who have very little contact with the rest of the world.

Everest Cho La Pass Trek is one of the most challenging treks to the Everest region of Nepal. It allows you to venture into the majestic beauty of the mountains, glaciers, icefalls, and mountainous terrain. You can imagine yourself stepping onto the highest land on the earth and crossing a high pass, enjoying the grandeur of mountains that soar above the skyline.

What's Special on the Everest Cho La Pass Trek?

The major highlights of the Everest Cho La Pass trek are Everest Base Camp, Kala Patthar, Gokyo Ri, Gokyo Valley, and Cho La Pass. You can get some striking views of Mt. Everest along with other mountains like Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Pumori, etc. from Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri. These two sites are famous as the best vantage points in the Everest region. Besides the mountain views, the scenic spectacles of valleys, rivers, lakes, cliffs, icefalls, and alpine forests are other marvelous sights that this trek offers.

The Everest Cho La Pass trek starts with a guided tour around the heritage sites in Kathmandu, which is followed by a flight to Lukla. The flight to Lukla lets you venture into the borders of the Himalayan region. As the trail traverses into the rivers, charming villages, alpine forests, and meadows, you will find yourself closer to the towering mountain that dominates the skyline. You pass places like Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche to Everest Base Camp. Next, you hike up to Kala Patthar for wonderful views of the mountains in the Everest region. Moving forward with the trek, you cross the Cho La Pass opens up into Gokyo Valley, which is adorned with multiple emerald glacial lakes known as Gokyo Lakes.

If you are looking for an alternative trek to venture into the Everest region, then the Everest Renjo la Pass trek, Everest Three Passes Trek, Everest Gokyo Lake Trek, Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri, etc., can be some options. Remember World Alpine Treks for more details regarding the treks.

What does the Cho La Pass Via EBC Trek Look Like?

The Everest Cho La Pass trek is known as the combination trek of the EBC trek and the Gokyo Lake trek. The journey of this trek begins with the 40-minute scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu, and the trail traverses through Sagarmatha National Park and climbs up via Sherpa village to Namche Bazaar. Following the banks of the Dudkushi River and crossing the Hillary suspension bridge, you will be entering the famous Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar. For proper acclimatization, you will be exploring Namche Bazaar and hiking nearby beautiful landscapes the following day. From Namche, we will be headed towards Tengboche, better known for its monastery, which is the oldest monastery in the Khumbu Valley. Guided by the Himalayas, the trail in the base camp continues through the changing landscape towards Dingboche, where we will take another acclimatization.

The journey continues through the rocky trail heading towards the Lobuche and Gorekshep to EBC. Then, finally, landing on the foot of the tallest mountain, Everest Base Camp, you will get a remarkable panoramic view of the Himalayas, including Mt Everest and other peaks from the famous viewpoint of Kalapathar. After an amazing achievement, we will descend to the lower level and root of Cho La Pass and Gokyo Valley the next day, we will be crossing Cho La Pass at 5420 meters, following the rocky trails and crossing the biggest glacier in the Khumbu Valley. This will be the toughest day for a trip as we reach the Gokyo, then you spend the rest of the day exploring the Gokyo valley.  Gokyo Ri gives you a mesmerizing view of the Gokyo Valley glacier, lakes, panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and other mountains, and back down to Namche Bazaar through the hidden valley following Dole and Matsuri village.
