The journey to the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek starts with a drive to Syabrubensi. From Syabrubensi, we enter the Langtang Conservation area and pass through the forests and villages to Langtang Valley. In the valley, we visit Kyanjin Gompa and hike up to Kyanjin Ri for some astounding views of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and other neighboring peaks.
From the Langtang Valley, we descend to Thulo Syabru and hike up to Gosaikunda via Shingompa. Gosaikunda is a beautiful lake that lies at an altitude of 4300 meters in the Langtang region. The lake is not only a stunning location to be at but a holy site as well. As per Hindu mythology, the lake was created by Lord Shiva with his trident when Lord Shiva drank a poison that was created in the process of making syrup for immortality. Lord Shiva drank the poison to save the world, but couldn’t bear the burn, hence piercing his trident on a mountain to create Gosaikunda Lake.
It is believed that a dip into the lake relieves a person from all the sins created by him/ her. Therefore, we can see many Hindu pilgrims visiting this place yearly.
